Orange has just announced that it will bring the first Intel-powered Android phone to the UK and France this Summer, running a 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 processor. Codenamed “Santa Clara,” and manufactured by Gigabyte, the handset is exactly the reference design Intel was showing at CES. That means a 4-inch 600 x 1024 screen and a 8-megapixel camera, which shoots 1080p video and has a 10-shot-per-second burst mode. It also means the phone is a little drab when it comes to looks. The phone will launch with Gingerbread, with an Ice Cream Sandwich update slated “soon” after launch. Orange will support HD Voice and NFC on the HSPA+ device, and while no price has been announced, it sounds like this could be a budget offering despite the new Intel hardware.
