The first movie was a huge hit, having the biggest box office opening weekend ever for a video game film in the US. It’s also the second highest grossing movie this year, earning nearly $1 billion, Deadline says. So it’s perhaps not a huge surprise that Warner Bros. Discovery has already started work on a sequel, though will it have another viral Chicken Jockey moment?
Nintendo is also gearing up to release a sequel to its big video game box office hit: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to theaters on April 3rd, 2026.
